Rules of Buhurt
In the heat of battle, where armour clashes and warriors collide, rules are the unseen force that shape the chaos into a contest of honour and skill. The rules of Buhurt are more than guidelines; they are the foundation of fair play, safety, and the ultimate test of strength and strategy. Every strike, every move, and every decision is governed by these principles, ensuring a level playing field for all. Are you ready to delve into the code that defines the spirit of our sport?
Longsword
The longsword is the weapon of knights and legends, blending elegance with ferocity. In these duels, your skill must match the blade’s reach. Can you wield its power to claim victory with precision and poise?
Sword and Shield
A timeless pairing of might and resilience, sword and shield combat is a battle of strength and strategy. With every swing and block, the duel is a test of will. Will your defence hold, or will your blade break through theirs?
Polearm

Raw, relentless, and unforgiving – Outrance pushes the limits of combat. Grappling, striking, and battling to the last breath, victory is earned through sheer will. Will you rise from the ground or be left behind in the dust?
Buhurt
Rules of Buhurt: 3vs3 and 5vs5 Battles
Buhurt group battles, including the 3vs3 and 5vs5 formats, are the ultimate displays of teamwork, strength, and tactical precision. Governed by strict rules, these battles transform raw combat into a structured competition of honour and skill. Here’s an overview of the key rules and how victory is achieved in these formats:
General Rules
1. Team Composition:
-
Teams consist of 3 fighters (3vs3) or 5 fighters (5vs5). Substitutes may be allowed in case of injuries or equipment failures.
-
All fighters must wear regulation-compliant armour and wield approved blunted weapons for safety.
2. Combat Area (List):
-
Battles occur in an enclosed list area with barriers for the safety of fighters and spectators.
-
The list surface must be solid, flat, and free from hazards to ensure fair and safe combat.
3. Permitted Actions:
-
Fighters can strike opponents with blunted weapons, use shield bashes, and engage in grappling.
-
Strikes must be aimed at permitted zones. Areas like the neck, groin, feet, and back of the knees are prohibited strike zones.
-
Grappling is allowed but must exclude dangerous techniques like choking or joint locks.
4. Prohibited Actions:
-
Thrusting with weapons, targeting prohibited zones, or using overly dangerous grappling techniques is forbidden.
-
Striking or grappling a “dead” fighter (one who has fallen) is not allowed. Violations result in penalties or disqualification.
Victory Conditions
The primary goal in 3vs3 and 5vs5 battles is to eliminate all members of the opposing team by rendering them “dead.”
1. Dead Fighters:
-
A fighter is considered “dead” when they have more than two points of their body (e.g., hands, knees, torso) on the ground.
-
Once “dead,” a fighter must immediately stop participating and remain still to avoid interfering with the ongoing battle.
2. Winning the Round:
-
A team wins the round when all members of the opposing team are declared “dead,” leaving their fighters as the last ones standing.
-
If time runs out before all fighters are “dead,” the team with the most members still standing wins the round.
3. Match Structure:
-
Matches are typically fought as best-of-three rounds, with the team winning two rounds declared the victor.
-
In the event of a tie (e.g., equal numbers of “alive” fighters when time expires), the round is declared a draw, and additional rounds or measures may be used to determine the winner.
Additional Notes
-
Marshal Oversight: Marshals enforce the rules, monitor for prohibited actions, and ensure fighter safety.
-
Team Dynamics: Success in Buhurt relies not only on individual skill but also on strategic coordination, as fighters must work together to dominate the list and protect their teammates.
In Buhurt, victory comes not only from strength but from outlasting and outmanoeuvring the opposition, ensuring your team is the last one standing amidst the chaos of combat.
