Duelling Categories

Sword and Shield

In Sword and Shield, armoured fighters wield a one-handed sword and shield, balancing offence and defence. Shields protect and unbalance opponents through bashes, showcasing agility and mastery of historical techniques. This setup requires combatants to be both strategic and adaptable in the heat of battle.

Sword and Buckler

In Sword and Buckle, fighters wield a one-handed sword and a small shield called a buckler. This demands precise movements and swift footwork. The buckler's minimal protection requires combatants to be highly strategic and offensive. Combatants showcase finesse and adaptability, delivering dynamic and exhilarating battles.

Longsword

In Longsword, fighters duel wielding a two-handed sword, emphasising strength and technique without a shield. This demands mastery of offensive and defensive moves solely with the weapon. Combatants showcase skill in timing, distance, and control, delivering intense and engaging battles.

Polearm

In the Polearm category, fighters duel wielding long-shafted weapons like halberds or Long Axes. This emphasises reach and leverage, requiring mastery of distance and strategic attacks. Combatants showcase control, timing, and spatial awareness, delivering powerful and tactical battles.

Sword and Shield

In the Sword and Shield category, combatants engage in one-on-one duels wielding a one-handed sword and a shield, requiring a harmonious blend of offensive strikes and defensive tactics. Permitted swords include single-handed swords, sabres, broadswords (up to 1,700 grams), and falchions (up to 1,900 grams).

The shield serves both as a protective barrier and an offensive tool, allowing for powerful shield bashes to unbalance opponents. Specific regulations govern equipment standards, permissible techniques, and scoring criteria to ensure fair competition and safety. For comprehensive details on these rules, refer to the official Buhurt International rule book.
